Nirmal Barua Milon :: In order to increase the quality of health services for the people of Rangamati hill district and its surrounding areas, the first 6-storied facility Rangamati General Hospital in hilly areas has been upgraded from 100 beds to 250 beds. The expenditure is being implemented through the Directorate of Health and Directorate of Public Works.
Due to the delay in handing over the land to the contractor on time, the work received in 2018 was supposed to be completed in 2 years in 2020, but it took 6 years for the contractor to hand over the building to the local authority.
Brief description of various parts included in the project, the work included in the project includes upgradation of Rangamati General Hospital from 100 beds to 250 beds up to the 3rd floor at a cost of Tk. 19 crore 81 lakh 38 thousand, (Contractor M/s. Jamal Construction Ltd. and M/s. Shefaq Enterprises), 4th to Expenditure up to 6th floor is Tk 14 crore 65 lakh 33 thousand, (Contractor M/s Shefak Enterprises and M/s Rip Enterprises), Construction cost of 6-storey 1-storey service building 89 lakh 99 thousand taka, (Contractor M/s. Anupam Enterprises), supply and installation of 4 elevators 3 crore 44 lakh 24 thousand taka, (Contractor firm Superstar Engineering Limited), medical gas system Installation cost 2 crore 69 lakh 98 thousand taka, (Contractor Spectra International Limited), external electrification at a cost of Tk 6 crore 74 lakh 92 thousand (Contractor Majid Sons Construction Ltd. and South Bangla Construction Pvt. Ltd.) is jointly implementing the project.
The latest incremental physical progress is said to be 96% (finishing work in progress), 73% (6th floor roof casting completed, masonry and finishing work in progress), 10% (piling work completed), complete with lifts in France. After pre-shipment inspection, installation and commissioning of the lift, the work will be 100% complete. The machinery is prepared in England. After pre-shipment inspection, installation and commissioning, the work will be completed 100%, installation of CCTV line, order process of goods of various parts and LC opening process as applicable and work order issued after execution of contract.
Modern amenities include : Semi-basement car parking facility. Kitchen with modern facilities, medical store, dispensary, emergency department, minor OT, nurse’s room, waiting room, ramp for lifting patients directly to emergency department by stretcher or wheel chair etc.
10 bed ICU and 20 bed isolation unit and coronary care unit. Mortuary with modern facilities.
X Ray, CT Scan, MRI, Mammography, Blood Bank, ECG, USG and Pathology rooms with modern facilities. 3 operation theaters and post operative rooms with modern facilities.
Lifts, sub-stations and generators for uninterrupted power supply with medical gas system.
Gynecology, Obstetrics and Neonatal Departments with modern facilities. Air conditioning with modern amenities.
24/7 CCTV camera facilities to ensure flawless security system. State-of-the-art fire fighting system to prevent fire accidents.
Store room, maintenance room, security barracks, medicine storage room, laundry, medical record room, service building with facilities of inspection bungalow etc.
Rangamati General Hospital from 100 beds to 250 beds, the contractor implementing the construction of the project M/s Jamal Construction Ltd. and M/s Shefak Enterprises Project Engineer. Omar Farooq said, our organization got 2 works in 2018 and they are supposed to deliver the work in 2020 but the local authority gave us 2021 for the main building and 2023 for the canteen removal project of Rangamati Medical College. vacated the space. It is taking till 2024 due to delay in clearing the land and removing the structures on time. When asked about the physical progress of the Rangamati General Hospital from 100 beds to 250 beds project, Engineer Md. Omar Farooq said that 90% of the construction work of the project has been completed. Grill installation, wall tiling work, floor tiling work is now in progress, then lining, painting, lift installation and electrical installation. If there is no major disaster, Rangamati General Hospital will be able to complete the construction work of the project to increase from 100 beds to 250 beds within the stipulated time. Omar Farooq confirmed.
In this regard, Rangamati Public Works Department Executive Engineer Anindya Kaushal said that the general hospital under construction in Rangamati hill district is a project to upgrade from 100 beds to 250 beds. This project is a gift of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to the people of Rangamati Hill District. Through this, the residents of Rangamati district and the people living in the surrounding districts will get healthcare and provide quality healthcare. A 250-bed hospital under construction in Rangamati hill district is under implementation by Public Works Department. This project is being constructed under Physical Facilities Development PSD under 4th HP NSP, divided into total six packages. Tenders for each package are invited separately and work on each package is going on simultaneously. The hospital has an eleven-storey foundation with a basement. Currently the 4th HP NSP will be built up to six floors under the operation plan. The six floors will have a state-of-the-art ICU, an isofloor and an isolation unit as we saw the need for isolation during Covid. Besides, car parking in the basement of this hospital is one of the facilities Medical store dispensary, emergency department, minor OT, nurse room, waiting room etc. There will be coronary care unit, mortuary with a modern facility of mortuary, X-ray, CT scan MRI, blood bank, ECG, USD and pathology rooms. The hospital has three operation theaters and post-operative rooms. The hospital will have four lifts, medical gas system and substation and generator for uninterrupted power supply. There will be gynecology ward and pediatric ward and neonatal ward with modern facilities. The hospital will be air-conditioned and will have round-the-clock CCTV cameras for security. There is a modern fire fighting system to prevent fire accidents. And besides this a service building is being constructed along with the hospital which will have all the facilities including store room maintenance room security barracks, medicine storage laundry, medical record room and a restaurant of Rangamati General Hospital. When this 250 bed hospital project was approved then there was some problem regarding the site or site selection of the 250 bed hospital, our Rangamati Hill District Member of Parliament Dipankar Talukdar MP Sir solved the problem of the site of this hospital on his own initiative and laid the foundation stone in February 2021. Since then, the foundation work and piling work has been completed and the construction work of the hospital is currently 96% completed from 1st floor to 3rd floor and 73% completed from 4th to 6th floor. The service building we have is currently under construction and the four elevators are made in France and the pre-shipment inspection will come to Bangladesh soon. The medical gas system equipment is manufactured in England and will arrive quickly. Apart from this, external electrical equipment substation, generator, air conditioning system, fire fighting system, CCTV including all the facilities are being sourced through various vendors and LCs have been opened for them where applicable and these will come at the earliest. The duration of this project is till June 2024, but we are hopeful that we can handover this hospital by December 2023 and hand it over to the Rangamati District Health Department, which will later play a role in ensuring healthcare in the area, said Executive Engineer Anindya Kaushal.
Originally 21 September 2020 Date After Anindya Kaushal joined Rangamati Public Works Department as Executive Engineer, the project to increase Rangamati General Hospital from 100 beds to 250 beds regained momentum.
It should be noted that the foundation stone of the Rangamati General Hospital upgrade project from 100 beds to 250 beds was laid by the Bangladesh National Parliament President Dipankar Talukdar, M.P. on 6 February 2021.
