Staff reporter :: A large public assembly was organized in Rangamati. On Sunday May 14, a organization called the “Nirjatita Nipirita parbyatyabashi” arranged this public assembly at the compound of Rangamati Gymnasium.
president of “parbatya Nagarik parishad” Begum Nurjahan presided over the assembly. The chief guest was President of the “parbatay sama-adikar andolan” Jahangir Alam Munna.
The leader of the “Bangali chatra parishad” Alamgir Hossain, Ujjal Pal, leader of the “parbatya sama adikar andolan” Kazi Md. Jalloa, Rup Kumar Chakma, Margared Pankhova, “Bangali chatra parishad” leader Shahadat Faraji Shakib, Abdul Mannan, Nadiruzzaman, Advocate Abacher Ali, Md. Afsar Hossain Khan, Jahangir Kamal, Advocate Alam Khan, Ringalal Kerbari, Md. Yunus, Morsheda Akhter, Sohel Reagan, Kamala Begum, Rabeya Begum and Engineer Abdul Majid spoke on the assembly.
Speakers complained that the government did not listen to any demand of Bengali people in the hill areas. Human rights organizations are always supporting a group. The Bengalis in the hill area are always abused, neglected.The speakers demanded to the government to protect the rights of the Bengali people by holding equal rights in the hills.
A long mass signature was adopted to protest the disappearance, murder, extortion, kidnapping and illegal weapons in the hill areas. before the beginning of the assembly, Alhaj Maulana S.M Shukkur recited the Holy Qur’an, the Holy Tripitak recited Arunpaul Bhikku, the holy Gita recited was Ashim Chakrabarti Sanku and the Holy Bible recited Lalduyang Pankhwa.
Millions of people from Rangamati Hill District took part in the public assembly. From the Gymnasium complex to the Rangamati Hill District Council office, there are people in almost two kilometers area. Such crowded gatherings didn’t seen before. During the rally, the movement of all types of passenger vehicles in Rangamati town was closed.
