ARTICLE 19 and DW Akademie joint initiative E-learning Course

--- Dhaka, 15 July 2021:: UK-based freedom of speech organization ARTICLE 19 and German leading media development organization Deutsche Welle (DW) Akademie commenced the online course on media laws, media ethics, and digital rights and safety. On 15th February 2020, this course has introduced for creating a learned and aware youth who can be able to raise their voice against any repression logically. A total of 950 participants enrolled in the course in 4-batches, among which 55 students (47 were male and 8 were female) have completed it. This course has developed in Bangla considering the language barrier of the participants. The 5th batch will be started on 17 July 2021; the estimated time to complete the course is 10 weeks. Students of communication and journalism, journalists from print, electronic and online media; online activists and social media users; and anybody can attend the course. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an accomplishment certificate from DW Akademie and ARTICLE 19.

The online course is divided into three parts – digital rights and safety, media laws, and media ethics. The course is free of cost; participants can attend the course through their computers or smartphones. About the course, Faruq Faisel, Regional Director of ARTICLE 19 South Asia said, “Joining the course, participants will be more cognizant and responsible regarding hate speech, fake news, privacy and data protection etc. Participants of the course will learn more about accountability, governance, environment protection, media ethics as well the truth, accuracy and digital rights and safety issues”.

ARTICLE 19 is an international human rights organization based in the United Kingdom, working in many countries around the world. Founded in 1987 in the United Kingdom, the organization works to ensure freedom of expression and free thought. The rights body started its operations in South Asia in 2008.
